4 Simple Recreational Activities you can do with your patient as a Home Health Aide

Keeping a good relationship with your client or patient is very important. As you take care of and support them, you must also have a bond that will keep your moods light and easy. One thing we need to remember is that our patients should have some activities that will keep them more healthy. Therefore, as we take care of them, we must also explore some ways we could to keep them busy but happy.

Here are four simple, appealing activities that will boost their energy and revitalize their mind and bodies during bonding with you.

Going on a walk

  • Walk around the block or in the house’s backyard. A simple walk around the block can be a great way to exercise. You can talk about what’s going on in their life or enjoy an evening stroll together.
  • You could also go for a walk in the park or woods. If you find yourself close enough to nature that there are parks nearby where you can go walking together (or even just trees), why not take advantage of it? The fresh air will do both of you good! It might inspire some conversation about how much better everyone feels when they spend time outside now and then.

Watching a movie or listening to music

  • Watch a movie together. Or listen to music together. You may have your patient put on their favorite CD or choose something new for you to listen to together.
  • You can even do both at once! That’s right—if it’s late and the patient has trouble sleeping, many options are available on TV (or online) that will play background music while watching an exciting episode of their favorite show.

Drawing or coloring

Drawing or coloring is a great way to express yourself. Whether you’re an artist or not, you can use this activity as an opportunity to connect with your patient and help them express themselves.

This activity also helps with creativity and allows our minds to be relaxed or at ease.

Gardening

In addition, gardening may also help with the good smell of your garden. You can plant herbs, flowers, or whichever you like. If you don’t want to plant, you can stay in the park and rest while breathing fresh air.

These are just four simple and easy ways to bond with your patient, but there are many more you can think of and discover. Doing fun and creative activities will surely help you with taking care of your patients.
